Carbon Steels, generally low carbon steels (between 0.05% and 0.30% carbon content),
medium carbon steels (0.30% to 0.60%), high carbon steels (0.60% to 1.00
0.60% to 1.00%) and very high carbon steels (above 1.00%).
Low carbon steels have mild and malleable properties and are commonly used for welding and
preferred in applications such as metal processing. Medium carbon steels, high strength and hardness
and is widely used in applications such as parts of machines. High carbon
steels are harder and less malleable and are used in applications such as cutting tools and springs.
while very high carbon steels are often used in specialized applications, for example
in cutting applications such as knives.
